Center for Watershed Protection Announcement
Just Released...
The Runoff Reduction Method
The first official
collaboration between the Center for Watershed Protection and Tom Schueler's
post-Center venture, the Chesapeake Stormwater Network (CSN), the Runoff
Reduction Method Technical Memo outlines an innovative system for
stormwater design.
The focus of the method is to
determine the ability for the BMP to reduce the overall volume of runoff in
addition to pollutant removal. The BMPs presented include both conventional and
innovative practices (e.g., pervious parking, sheetflow to open space, green
roofs, downspout disconnection). The method also incorporates built-in
incentives for environmental site design, such as preserving forests and
reducing soil disturbance and impervious cover. More information on Center
website front page www.cwp.org and on CSN's web site www.chesapeakestormwater.net.
Center Releases two field
assessment User Manuals for free download
In an effort to ensure that
every community has the methods to make comprehensive assessments of their
local watershed, the Center for Watershed Protection has made Manuals 10 and 11
of the Urban Subwatershed Restoration Manual Series available permanently for
free download.
Manual 10 outlines the Unified
Stream Assessment, a rapid technique to locate and evaluate problems and
restoration opportunities within the urban stream corridor. Manual 11, a User's Guide for Unified
Subwatershed and Site Reconnaissance, provide rapid surveys to help identify
upland restoration projects and source control to consider when devising
subwatershed restoration plans. Both
manuals include field sheets as Word files and Manual 10 offers an Access
database.
These Manuals, released in
2005, now join Manuals 1, 2, 3, 4, and 8 in the Manual Series that are now
available for free download.
Download
these Manuals by visiting the Urban Subwatershed Restoration Manual Series
website.

NC State and others are
hosting the Low
Impact Development Summit, June 23-24, and will address the planning,
policy, and financing aspects of incorporating LID principals in your
municipalities. The Center's Mike Novotney and Kelly Collins will be onsite and
holding the session "Leveling the Playing Field for LID." They will
discuss recent efforts in DE, GA, and VA to develop a stormwater management
approach and design criteria that encourage the use of Better Site Design and
LID as well as traditional stormwater methods.
