An advisory stage notice of emergency for use of water for irrigation purposes has been issued by Cape Coral.

City Manager John Szerlag said that while the current two-day watering schedule remains in effect, residents are asked to reduce watering of lawns and also consider adjusting timers to water only one day each week.

Four weeks of water supply in Cape Coral canals

Hand watering remains allowed at any time.

Water levels in freshwater canal system are declining quickly, Szerlag's notice said, with about four weeks of supply remain in the freshwater canals. The freshwater canals supply more than 50 percent of water used for irrigation.

Szerlag's notice said that without conservation and rain, a “Stage I” declaration with mandatory one-day watering may become necessary. The City will be increasing enforcement activity to address illegal watering. The current watering schedule is available at Capecoral.net.
