Ceitus Boat Lift Conflict Resolution with City of Cape Coral Council

Please attend and demonstrate your support for Lee County Commissioners Bigelow, Hall, Judah, Mann and Manning who unanimously support replacement of the North Spreader Barrier to protect the waters, estuary and ecosystem of Matlacha Pass Aquatic Preserve.

The long-awaited meeting between the Lee County Commissioners and the Cape Coral City Council will be as follows:

All friends of area waters should attend this meeting, but you probably will not be allowed to speak. The purpose of the meeting is to satisfy Florida Chapter 164 requirements for mediation before the lawsuit goes to trial.

Please remind the commissioners that only restoration of the Ceitus Barrier (with lift or lock) will restore historical fresh water flows in this watershed. Expect the Cape Councilmen to again offer long-term sewer improvements, deeper road ditches and such, as concessions if Lee County will drop the lawsuit. Some of these measures would some day improve water quality, but would do nothing to achieve proper fresh water flows through the mangroves to the estuary. These historical fresh water flows are essential to the fish nursery and estuary health. Any compromise that does not include restoration of the barrier is not acceptable.
